How to Program a Ford Key Fob

Ford Key Fob Programming Steps

Keep in mind that if you’re using an aftermarket key fob, the process to program it may not work. We recommend getting a genuine OEM Ford key fob replacement at our parts department instead of visiting a third-party parts center in the Columbia area. Once you’ve gotten the new Ford key fob, and the key has been replicated to work with your vehicle, you’re ready to begin programming it. Here’s how to program a Ford key fob:

1. Make sure that all of the doors on your Ford vehicle are shut.
2. Open the driver’s side door, and get into your vehicle.
3. On the driver’s side door, press the unlock button.
4. Use your new key, and put it into the ignition.
5. Turn the ignition from “Off” to “Run” 8 consecutive times within a 10-second period. You should end in the “Run” position on your 8th time. If you did this correctly, you’ll notice the doors will lock and unlock. If your doors don’t lock and unlock on your 8th time, you may need to start over from step 1.
6. Within 8 seconds of the doors locking and unlocking, press any button on your key fob. You’ll notice the doors locking and unlocking again for confirmation.
7. Finally, turn your vehicle off, and remove the key. Your new Ford key fob has been successfully programmed!

Ford Key Fob Programming Steps – Ford MyKey®

If you’ve got a newer Ford model, it may be equipped with Ford MyKey®. Ford MyKey® lets you set up specific driving profiles depending on the key that’s being used. If you’ve got a newer driver in your Belleville family, this is a fantastic feature to utilize as it’ll maximize their safety when they hit the roads. The steps to program your Ford key fob to Ford MyKey® are as follows:

1. Turn your vehicle on with the key you need to set up a profile for on Ford MyKey®.
2. Choose the “MeyKey®” option in the settings menu of your infotainment system.
3. Select the “Create MyKey®” option.
4. Now, press and hold the “OK” button until you get a notification that your key fob has been configured to use MyKey®.
5. Finally, go through the different safety features you want to turn on when that key is being used.
